Travelling: South Portugal

Where some ancient people believed the world ended, some modern may find true begining, at least as far as love for Ocean, figs and port wine is concerned. For moderate to cold climate children walking around olive trees and robust grape bushes, watching organges and lemons ripening, experiencing heat of the sun in late afternoon in the second half of September is just awesome.

And even though Algarve restaurants abound in fried sardines, tuna steaks and seafood (all in stuffy tourist sauce) the most rememberable tastes remain in the raw simplicity of basic ingredients.

Aromatic, juicy ham; sweet dark figs and moisty goat cheese...

Reason for ketchup-mania & pure black olive jewels...

Dense, crusty bread that asks for plenty of good salty butter...

Spicy and fatty pork sausage for hard core lovers...

More figs (green doesn't mean it's not ready ;) and more cheese from noble cows...

and last, but definitely not least, king of Portugal land...

Tawny
variety mage biggest impression but ruby and white are to be sampled (generously!!!) as well. Mind 20% of alcohol, especially when waves are strong ;)
